ALEXANDRIA, VA- The Edison Eagles got a bit of good news this afternoon from the Virginia High School League (VHSL), when they ruled on the situation regarding the varsity football team's ineligible player. For those of you who have not been closely following the situation out of Edison High School, the Eagles were being reviewed by the VHSL for possible infractions by a varsity player who was deemed to be living outside of Edison boundaries. As soon as the coaches discovered the situation, they immediately notified the VHSL and have since been awaiting word on possible repercussions. Some initial thoughts were that the Eagles, who are undefeated on the season, would have to forfeit up to 5 games in which this player was included on the roster.
We here at Gameday Magazine have since learned, that although some penalties were assessed against the Edison Eagles, they will not have to forfeit any of their games this season. The penalties against Edison include a $1000 fine, a formal letter of warning and they must draft a plan which will outline how they will prevent this situation from arising again in the future. This is good news for the Edison faithful, who can now move on with their season, and continue on the successful path that they started.
