Floyd County and Radford continue to hold down the top spot in the Three Rivers, while Salem and Pulaski County are tied for first in the River Ridge, and Wm Byrd and Northside are leading the Blue Ridge District.

Radford Thrashes Auburn

RADFORD, VA - The Bobcats pleased their soggy Homecoming crowd by scoring 35 unanswered points in downing the Eagles 35-7 in a Three Rivers District game Friday night.

Auburn (2-5, 0-2 TRD) took an early 7-0 lead in the second quarter on a 23-yard pass from Derrick Duncan to Keifer Titus. After that, it was all Radford (6-1, 2-0 TRD).

The Bobcats would take a 14-7 halftime lead behind a pair of passes from Dontae Carter, one being a 10-yard pass to Ryan Webb and the other, a 25-yarder to William Saunders.

In the second half, a 3-yard run by DeAndre Thompson, a 4-yard scamper by Carter and another 1-yard run By Thompson, along with PAT's by Michael Goodman would allow Radford to pull away for the 35-7 victory.

Dontae Carter completed 10-of-16 passes for 162 yards. DeAndre Thompson carried the ball 16 times for 74 yards.

Bland County Outlasts Narrows

BLAND, VA - The Bears scored the winning touchdown late in the fourth quarter to claim a 14-7 win against the Green Wave and take over the top spot in the Mountain Empire District Friday night.

With the score tied at 7-all, Bland County's 6-1, 1-0 MED) Kristopher Kennedy caught a 55-yard pass from Josh Shrader with 5:18 left in the game to take a 14-7 lead.

The Bears took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter on a 49-yard run by Shrader. Narrows (5-3, 1-1 MED) tied the game in the third quarter on a 52-yard gallop by Corey Lowe.

Lowe led the Green Wave with 95 yards rushing on 18 carries.

Roanoke Catholic Rolls Past Fuqua

The Celtics scored early and often in romping past the Falcons 41-7 Friday afternoon.

Joey Williams and Jamar Brown scored two touchdowns each for Roanoke Catholic (6-1), while Zach Zoller and Shockey added a touchdown apiece.

Fuqua (3-5) scored its lone touchdown in the fourth quarter on an 11-yard run by Coulter Maxey.

Zoller carried the ball 12 times for 174 yards to lead the Celtics.

Craig County Beats Covington

NEW CASTLE, VA - The Rockets 27-game losing streak came to an end Friday night, as Craig County defeated the winless Cougars 34-20 in a Pioneer District battle of the cellar dwellers.

Covington (0-8, 0-2 Pioneer) and Craig County (1-6, 1-1 Pioneer) were tied at 6-all at the half.

James Jones carried the ball 20 times for 150 yards to pace the Rockets and quarterback Adam Howard completed 8-of-16 passes for 78 yards.

Pulaski County Dominates Cave Spring

ROANOKE, VA - Nubian Peak ran for 120 yards and scored three touchdowns in helping lead the Cougars to a 42-0 River Ridge District win over the Cougars Friday night.

Pulaski County (7-0, 2-0 RRD) led 35-0 at the half before empting the bench in the second half.

Peak scored on runs of 12 and 70 yards and on a 34-yard pass from Luke Watson. Seth Parris added a pair of 1-yard touchdown runs, while Zane Quesenberry hauled in a 31-yard pass from Watson.

Luke Watson, a transfer from Auburn High School, completed 6-of-10 passes for 150 yards for the Cougars.

Pulaski County held Cave Springs to just 82 yards of total offense.

Wm. Byrd Runs By Lord Botetourt

VINTON, VA - The Terriers opened up Blue Ridge District play Friday night with an exciting 20-10 win over the Cavaliers in front of a soggy Homecoming crowd.

Lord Botetourt (2-6, 0-1 BRD) took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter on a 16-yard scamper by Josh Colombini.

Wm. Byrd (5-3, 1-0 BRD) would take the lead good late in the opening quarter on a 1-yard run by Derrick Palmer and Conner would score on the two-point conversion to make it 8-6.

The Terries increased their advantage to 14-7 at the half on a 4-yard scamper by Palmer.

The Cavaliers would decrease their deficit in the third quarter on a 42-yard run by field goal Troy McNeil to make it 14-10.

Byrd would secure the victory midway through the fourth quarter on a 22-yard pass from Palmer to Brian Fuquay to make the final 20-10.

Josh Colombini led the Cavaliers ground game with 66 yards on 18 carries.

Wm. Byrd, who had 253 yards of offense, was led by Derrick Palmer, who ran for 137 yards on 35 carries. He also added another 71 yards passing on a 5-for-11 evening.

Salem Stops Blacksburg

SALEM, VA - The Spartans scored 21 unanswered points to hold off the Bruins 28-14 in a River Ridge District battle Friday night.

Blacksburg (5-2, 1-1 RRD) took an early 7-0 lead in the opening quarter when Evan Sunshine intercepted a pass and raced 27 yards for the score.

Salem (6-1, 2-0 RRD) answered right back to tie the game at 7-all on an 80-yard scamper by quarterback Derek Hickman.

A 32-yard pass from Spencer Link to Casper Violette would give the Bruins a 14-7 lead with 1:14 left in the first quarter.

Link was filling in for an injured Trey Gresh, who was unable to play due to a broken finger.

A 1-yard run, a 2-yard scamper and another 1-yard run by Daniel Dyer would allow the Spartans to pull away for the 28-14 victory.

Blacksburg, which was held to 126 yards of offense, was led by David Bales' 40 yards on 12 carries.

Salem, which tallied 304 yards of offense, was led by Derek Hickman, who ran for 127 yards on 10 carries. He also passed for another 73 yards by completing 5-of-11 passes.

Floyd County Outlasts East Mont

ELLISTON, VA - The Buffaloes remained perfect in the Three Rivers District with a hard-fought 14-0 win over the Mustangs Friday night.

Floyd County (7-0, 2-0 TRD) took a quick 7-0 lead in the first quarter on a 1-yard keeper by quarterback Luke Harris.

East Mont (4-3, 1-1 TRD) appeared to had tied the game in the third quarter when quarterback Shawn Christian connected with Chad Raines for the scoring-strike. However, the Mustangs were called for holding, thus nullifying the score.

The Buffaloes would add another score in the fourth quarter, this time a 3-yard pass from Harris to Caz Cantrell, to make the final 14-0.

East Mont, which had 153 yards of offense, was led by Shawn Christian's 116 yards on 11-of-21 completions.

Floyd County, which posted 240 yards of offense, was paced by Luke Harris, who ran for 70 yards on 11 carries and passed for another 112 yards on a 10-for-14 evening.
