STERLING, VA - The Park View Patriots came into tonight's game with a 2-5 overall record, losing a close one to Briar Woods 14-6 last week. The Dominion Titans have been on the losing end of three close contests - falling to Heritage last week 14-7, Briar Woods 7-0, and losing in the closing minutes against Broad Run in the last few weeks. Both teams are certainly more talented than their records indicate and have been on the wrong end of close games. More than pride was on the line Friday night, each team was out to prove that this season was an anomaly.
Defense set the tone from the start with defensive back Marcus Freeman intercepting a pass from Titans' quarterback Trey Baxter. Dominion's defense stood their ground forcing a turnover on downs. The majority of the first quarter was a defensive struggle until Park View's quarterback, Brandon Lee, began to find wholes in the scheme.
With the first quarter winding to a close Lee hooked up with senior Josh Jones for a 46-yard touchdown strike. Jones made an athletic grab for the touchdown against defensive back Andy Pont, who also rotates in at quarterback with Trey Baxter. After the Titans jumped offside the Patriots failed on a two-point conversion attempt, 6-0 Park View. The Patriots' defensive game plan was simple; stop the talented Deandre Reaves at halfback. Led by the defensive line Park View stifled Reaves and the Titans' offense.
The momentum was with Park View and they exploited it scoring another touchdown before the half ended. Lee was able to use his arm and legs finishing the drive with a two-yard rushing touchdown, Patriots 13-0.
The second half was a defensive struggle with the Titans' defense coming up big with two end-zone interceptions. Pont rotated in at quarterback and provided a spark on offense with his arm, but the Patriots' defense remained strong the entire game. After fighting and losing close battles this season, the Patriots threw a shut out and defeated the Titans 13-0.
