BEALETON, VA--On a cold and blustery night in Bealeton, VA the Massaponax Panthers took on the Osbourn Eagles for a regional crown. The teams were set to play for the Northwest Region Division 5 trophy, with the winning team moving on to face Stone Bridge High School next week. The Stone Bridge Bulldogs had defeated the RE Lee Lancers earlier in the day and would be able to sit back and watch this game.
Massaponax was the host school, but due to Mother Nature and the dismal shape of the Panthers playing field the game was moved to Liberty High School. Osbourn had already played at Liberty once during the Northwest Region tournament, pulling out a huge 56-15 win over GW Danville.
Massaponax entered Friday evening contest as the top seed with a 9-2 overall record. The Panthers defeated Brooke Point last week after getting a bye in the opening round of the Northwest Regional tournament due to their power point ratings. Osbourn entered with a 9-3 record after winning their first two contests in the regional tournament. The Eagles were making their 3rd regional title game appearance in the last 4 seasons, and the Panthers were seeking their 3rd regional title of the decade. Unfortunately, only one team would walk away with a victory in this game and their hopes of a state title still intact.
