ASHBURN, VA - After a snowy Saturday, the division 5 state semifinal match-up between the Stone Bridge Bulldogs and the Massaponax Panthers was postponed to Sunday afternoon. Despite the horrendous field conditions, both teams were able to find some offensive spark. But in the end, the Bulldogs survived the triple option attack from the Panthers and advanced to the division 5 Virginia state title game next week against the Phoebus Phantoms, winning 23-20.
When the players, coaches, fans, and media walked into Bulldog Stadium, they all immediately noticed the condition of the field. Covered in mud and snow, a crew of over a dozen people vigorously worked to clear the field and make it playable. The kickoff was pushed back half an hour due to the increased preparation time, but the game was played nonetheless.
