At the beginning it was Osbourn, but at the end it was Broad Run.

For the second consecutive year, Gameday has selected Broad Run to be our #1 ranked team, and for good reason. As the only team in the area which managed to go undefeated and win a state title, there isn't a single school out there with the accomplishments they had.

While we slated Broad Run as our #1 team this year, it was a position they held almost the entire year. For the preseason, we made the decision to place Osbourn as the best team in the area based on all their returning talent, but they soon dropped following a loss to Brooke Point in Week 2. Since Osbourn dropped, Broad Run has held onto the #1 spot and never relinquished it. 14 straight weeks at #1 folks, that's pretty good.

Compared to last year, there was a big difference. It wasn't until the final poll did we decide to place Broad Run in the top spot, but their claim to the top was as obvious now as it was then. Just last year, they too were the only area team that went undefeated and claimed a state title.

Now, the one dispute fielded all the time from us is the hypothetical matchup: How would a AA team do against a AAA team? Thing is, nobody knows. Also, we don't care. Our formula for the Power Poll over the past three years has been to determine the best team based on their respective schedule. Broad Run won at their respective level while the others did not. That's where the discussion ends for us.
