LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA -

BRIAR WOODS FALCONS: Is this the year for a district title?

Broad Run and Park View lose their coach and the majority of their key players, Loudoun County loses 18 starters, Potomac Falls has a brand new coach and Briar Woods has never lost to Dominion or Freedom as a full-time district member. Sound pretty good, right?

Yeah, but it gets better. They return one of the area's best backs in Michael Brownlee who ran for close to 1,200 yards last season. In a year where so many Dulles District teams lose so much, Briar Woods has to be considered an early contender, right? Well, maybe.

If football was a game won entirely off the efforts of skill players, then yes, Briar Woods would be an easy preseason pick for district contender. But it's not that easy. They'll need an offensive line and an entire defense to win games, not to mention some semblance of a passing game. Do they have those components? In some areas, they do, but in others, it'll be a waiting game.
